In this article, you'll find information to help interpret MoverStats reports in ENVISION, including definitions for report headers and examples of what they mean.

This report provides a list of variables ranked in a trade area. When MoverStats variables are used, the report estimates the count of residential moves in and out of the trade area over time. You can also see a demographic breakdown of the household population moving into the trade area.
Count: The number of people or households who moved into or out of the trade area for the variable.
%: The proportion of the trade area population or households who moved into or out of the trade area for the variable.
Base Count: The number of people or households who moved into or out of the benchmark for the variable.
Base %: The proportion of the benchmark population or households who moved into or out of the benchmark for the variable.
% Pen: The proportion of the benchmark population or households found in the trade area for the variable.
Index: A measure of comparison of the proportion of the trade area to the proportion of the benchmark for the variable. An Index of 100 is average. Indices above 100 are above average or overrepresented. Indices below 100 are below average or underrepresented.

In Kingston, 86 household maintainers aged 15 to 24 were estimated to have moved into the trade area during Q3 of 2023, making up 3.52% of total households moving in. Of all household maintainers in this age group moving into Ontario, 2.97% moved into Kingston; this is the penetration rate. With an index of 136, the number of household maintainers in this age group moving into the trade area is 36% above average compared to the benchmark.
This report estimates the count of residential moves in and out of a specified trade area over time. Use this tool to understand how many people or households have moved in, out, or within a trade area in the past year, including the net change of population or households and mover counts by quarter.
Household Population: Estimated population counts excluding group quarters of movers in and out of the trade area in the past year.
Note: Moving counts capture all domestic movers. Movers can originate from both within and outside the trade area of interest. Moving counts do not include recent immigrants.

Net Change - Past Year: Includes the percent change in the household population or households in the trade area compared to the base household population or households and the count of net change between movers in and out of the trade area.
Mover Activity - Past Year: Displays the household population or households moving into a different residence in the trade area as a percentage of the existing trade area population/households. The index compares mover activity in the trade area to mover activity in the benchmark.
Household Population/Households Moving by Time Period: Displays household population or households moving in (red line) compared to moving out (blue line) by quarter.

In this example, 12,448 people moved into a residence within the trade area of Kingston in the past year, while 12,066 people moved out. This is a net change of 382 people, which is a 0.2% change compared to the base household population already in Kingston. 7.1% of the household population in Kingston moved into a different residence in the past year. With an index of 110, the estimated number of people moving into a different residence in Kingston is 10% above the benchmark (Ontario) average.

In Winnipeg, 1,419 households were estimated to have moved into houses constructed before 1961 in the trade area during Q3 of 2023, making up 30.58% of total movers in this period. In comparison, 98,014 households live in houses constructed before 1961 in the trade area, which makes up a lower proportion of this household type versus movers (27.92% vs 30.58%) and, therefore, reflects an above-average (Index = 110) proportion of movers into houses constructed before 1961.

Ranking in the top 5 segments by household count of movers, 09 - Boomer Bliss is the most represented segment for movers in this trade area during this time period. In Kingston, 289 households who belong to this segment were estimated to have moved in during the selected time period, which is 11.88% of total households moving in. When compared to the benchmark of Ontario, there is a significantly lower proportion of movers into the province as a whole than the proportion of movers into the trade area for the selected time period (2.57% vs. 11.88%), and this yields an above-average index of 462.

In Kingston, 14 households who are PRIZM® segment 04 - Turbo Burbs were estimated to have moved into the trade area during the selected time period, making up 0.59% of total households moving in during this time period. In this report, we can compare the movers for the selected time period to both the trade area and the benchmark. Looking at the benchmark, 1,031 Turbo Burbs households were estimated to have moved into Ontario, which makes up 0.92% of total households moving into the province. Since the proportion of provincial movers is higher than movers for the time period, the index is calculated to be below the Ontario average (Index = 65). Conversely, the trade area index of 254 shows that the movers for the selected time period are proportionally greater than Turbo Burbs households in the trade area.
