What does the "Precision" field represent when geocoding Locations?

After importing locations using address information into ENVISION (also known as geocoding), you can see the individual locations that have successfully imported by clicking on the geocode result on the Results page.

Once loaded, the table shows details of each location, including a column at the end titled Precision. See the definitions below to understand what this field represents.

Precision column with a few examples from ENVISION

US Location Files

Street: Record is geocoded using the street address.

Extrapolate: Record is coded to an estimated location based on the range of addresses on that street.

Canadian Location Files

Street: Record is geocoded using the street address.

Extrapolate: Record is coded to an estimated location based on the range of addresses on that street.

Unique ePCCF: Record is coded using the Unique Enhanced Postal Code Conversion File, which provides a single latitude/longitude point for each postal code.

Rural Enhanced ePCCF: Record is coded using the Rural Enhanced Postal Code Conversion File, which provides a latitude/longitude point using a combination of place name and postal code, for rural postal codes.
